Unit History

"Black Cats"

The 899th Tank Destroyers were formed in 1941 with the purpose of providing the American armies a way to neutralize the German armies advantage in tanks by training and equipping units with the sole purpose of tank destruction. Their first action in WWII would be landing in North Africa during Operation Torch in 1942.

It was then shipped to England to prepare for the invasion of France.

On the morning of June 6th, 1944 Able and Charlie companies of the 899th tank destroyers came ashore at Utah beach with a single purpose to defeat the German army by destroying the Germans most powerful weapons their tanks. With resolute courage, ingenuity, and sheer tenacity the 899th would succeed at Utah beach and fight all the way across Europe in to the heart of Germany itself and in to the pages of history.
